It occurs to me that you might like to know a little bit more about the projects themselves as well as the wonderful people who are presenting them each week during Busy Girl Sews, so I've given you a few more details below on the Envelope Clutch. Daniar will be sharing her version of the project over at the Fat Quarter Shop's Jolly Jabber blog tomorrow, a shop which really needs no introduction at all. Suffice it to say that if you want to buy great fabric from nice people, the Fat Quarter Shop is a good place to start. Not only do they have a staggering inventory of prints, but I love that they have always been so happy to supply prizes for sew alongs and blog hops over the years, no matter how small the bloggers are who host them. That kind of generosity does a lot to build good will in the community, and it shows. I was also thrilled to have Kimberly share some thoughts for a little interview in my book, so be sure to check that out if you have your own copy!
When I designed my projects for Sew Organized for the Busy Girl, I spent a lot of time doing research in different places, including the fashion industry. Envelope clutches have been fairly popular in recent years and for good reason: the simple shape is both modern and classic.
I provide two versions of the clutch in my book, a small one for manicure items and a large one for an artist's toolkit. When you look at the project, you can see that it's really a very simple sew, but I love how useful it is.
So as I type this post, I'm standing at 2,999 followers on Bloglovin' which is almost inconceivable to me. The fact that all of you care enough to drop by each week and see what I'm up to -- well, I just love you guys. Your kindness is such a blessing to me in this transition period full of empty walls, stacked boxes, little sleep, and what feels like an endless supply of chaos as we prepare to move in June. I looked at my ravaged sewing room last week and could only laugh since I feel like a prime candidate for my own book right now. I can hardly wait to be "sew organized" again once we get settled in Texas!
But meanwhile, friends, I want to share the love with all of you through some fabric care packages. Please leave a comment below telling me a few of your favorite designers, colors, and collections. I'll pick two names on Friday morning. International entries are welcome to join in. Feel free to dream big in your comments, and I'll see what I can do!
I love Bonnie and Camille and my favorite collection right now is Day Sail. At least until the next collection arrives! Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteI want to welcome you (in advance!) to the great state of Texas! We moved here more than 27 years ago and I love it! My favorite fabric colors are the cool blue and aqua fabrics. I love the feel of Art Gallery Fabrics, I love Lori Holt's fabrics from Riley Blake, and I love both Sweetwater, and Bonnie and Camille fabrics from Moda! ReplyDeleteKate and Birdie, Kate Spain, and Bonnie and Camille. I love teals, greys, greens (bright lime greens)), and reds. However, I love most fabric. I am more into modern designs, not a ton of floral (like shabby chic roses and whatnot). I am loving Daysail by Bonnie and Camille and Peacock Garden by Jane Franham. I am dying for Winterberry to come out by Kate and Birdie. Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteSo hard to choose. Love Cotton and Steel- especially the basics, Carolyn Friedlander, and more, just too brain dead to think. I just love scraps. I'm not too picky.

I'm a big fan of more modern quilting but also love the vintage lines you use. I'm new to sewing so my stash is tiny😉 thank you for the chance at a givaway and may your move go smoothly!
ReplyDeleteAnything purple, no more than two colors per fabric as in white on white or different shades of one color, and small prints. I enjoy scrap quilts, picture quilts and using fabric as paint palette. I find it difficult to throw away the smallest scraps.
ReplyDeleteTula Pink is one of my favorites. I love bright colors, turquoise and orange! We moved from Hawaii last year back to VA, very challenging! Wishing you the best in your move :)

Wow for designers the list is endless but I like Tula Pink at the moment. She wakes me up. Colors, anything goes if it's bright and as far as collections my list is so long. I like Elizabeth but then I also like the new Blues coming out and there are the Sisters and there wonderful fabric.
ReplyDeleteHave a crush on the Allison Glass fabrics... Bigtime! Love the strong colours and the modern feel without being too geometric. Also love modern small scale patterns, like random dots.

I love orange, pink, and purple, especially geometric prints. Jeni Baker is a favorite, along with Emily Herrick and Vanessa Christensen. Good luck with the move!

I love bright fabric, the brighter the better, so my favourite fabric designers are Kaffe Fasset, Brandon Mably and Philip Jacobs, all at Westminster Fibres, and Anna Marie Horner. Working with their fabric is like having a party!
ReplyDeleteRight now I love Tasha Noel designs, as Bonnie and Camille as well. It's so difficult to choose some colours, red, aqua, yellows...
ReplyDeleteThanks
Good luck with your move! So kind of you to offer fabric happiness by mail! I love bright, clear colors and low volume prints and blenders, among other things. I don't have just one favorite designer but do love fabrics by Zen Chic, Carolyn Friedlander, Vanessa Christensen, Kate Spain and others.
ReplyDeleteLori Holt and Bonnie and Camille fabrics always catch my eye.
ReplyDeleteI'm currently loving low volume prints. I've also started adding some of the Japanese fabric lines, Yuwa, Suzuko Koseki, Lecien. Harder to find and a bit more but so unique. Thanks for the chance to win! shopgirl7232(at)yahoo.com

ReplyDeletelenelson(at)mail(dot)com
Oh I am so behind in my reading that I didn't even know that you were moving!! Juggling all that must be done before moving while life insists on continuing on at its usual speed is no mean feat. I know you can do it though! As for my favourite designers and fabrics, I don't want to sound like someone who sways in the wind, but I honestly love all the fabric that you use for your projects. I think we'd be great friends in real life!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations ,that`s an awesome milestone but hope more to come!
ReplyDeleteChoose only one designer is very hard for me, but Bonnie and Camille,Fig tree, Kate spain,Zen chic, two sisters...and others caught my eye. Many fav white,green,blue,purple...
I am a new quilter and am awed by so many of great designers out there. Now in my learning process, I would say I like Lori Holt and Pat Sloan and Julie Cefalu.

ReplyDeleteSo sweet of you to share your stash! I'm really loving things I can fussy cut lately. I love all Bonnie and Camille and older fabric lines that aren't necessarily oop but just older. I'm new to sewing so I like getting stuff that others are kind of "over" ☺️
ReplyDeleteSweet projects ~ for the budding artist and someone who loves makeup!

I love the Fat Quarter Shop too Heidi for that very reason - they are so generous and support the smaller bloggers as well as the famous ones! Your envelope clutches look great - I can see some teachers presents coming up soon! And as for fabric I love - I am dreaming of some fussy cut squares to make an economy block childrens fun quilt :-)
ReplyDeleteOh My, there are so many fabulous designers out there now! I would have to say Lori Holt is my favorite. She is so creative, and her patterns and fabric lines are just adorable, not to mention her blog. I am so glad that she dreams of quilt patterns and designs in her sleep.

Heather Ross everything, Kerchief Girls, Lotta Jansdotter's Mormor and Silvia, Aneela Hoey, Carolyn Friedlander's Doe, Sarah Jane's Wee Wander and Let's Pretend, I also really like the stitch basics. I love color and pictures on fabric. So really fabric in general. Good luck with moving, that can be such a swirl of emotions and plain being overwhelmed. Thanks goodness it isn't forever right?!
ReplyDeleteI lean towards blues and greens.. I love Carolyn Friedlanders fabrics, especially Doe, and Anna Maria Horner never disappoints. Her Good Folks line is my all-time favorite although I only got a few of The prints.
ReplyDeleteI am more caught up by color then designer... When I look at, pet, stack, or raid my stash or the fabric in the shops its the colors that draw me each time... The season change and the colors and combinations change and that is what pulls me in to different collections on different shelves.
ReplyDeleteAmy Butler, Lecien,Art Gallery,Free spirit,Micheal Miller,Cotton &Steel,Riley Blake,They all have remarkably gorgeous designs,Who is the designer of the fabric that you made the small clutch for a manicure. Its Beautiful.

Favorites right now, Kaffe Fassett, Amy Butler, Cotton and Steel, Tula Pink, it's hard to decide.
ReplyDeleteDS (anything from any of her fabric lines-I LOVE her!) and anything from Sarah Jane or Aneela Hooey...and of course Heather Ross! Basically, I would be more than overjoyed with anything, but from DS I specifically want to make a quilt with an Americana theme (so reds, blues, grays, whites, with bits of orange, pink, and teal) or anything pink in the other designers!
ReplyDeleteI have so many favorite designers it is hard to pick! Carolyn Friedlander, Allison Glass, Bonnie & Camille, and Melody Miller to name just a few. Would love to have some low volumes too! Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteI really like the kinds of fabrics Lori Holt uses in her projects. Also blenders and solids.
ReplyDeleteThere really are too many amazing designers to pick from. I love Sweetwater, Jan Patek, Bonnie and Camille.
ReplyDeleteI love a lot of Kate Spain, but more than any one designer, I love clean singing colours, not bothered if they are dark or pale, and I love the ice cream shades, but clear and joyful colours have me in a dream!
ReplyDeletegood luck with your move, and I hope all your dreams come true, there in Texas!

ReplyDeleteTexas is pretty great, if I may say so myself ;) As of right now, I'm really falling in love with Cotton + Steel fabrics. I fell out of the sewing game for a bit and am now hitting it full force again, and I'm smitten with these designers. I love the idea that all of their collections work together. I'm also loving Fantasia from Art Gallery. Hope you get settled in soon!
ReplyDeleteI love a range of fabrics. Especially those that aren't locked into only being used with fabrics of the same line. Am seeing a need, though, to add solids and near solids to my stash. Have a lot of batiks, but really need those basics to fill some gaps. Love the various shot cotton fabrics -- they are so alive.

I'm really enjoying your book posts Heidi! I have to say that I've been loving so many of the Art Gallery designers lately. The fabrics are so pretty and the quality is incredible. I love Wanderer by April Rhodes. I'd also love to have some more low volume stuff for my stash so that I can create some more projects using a low volume background...I love that look!
ReplyDeleteI'm a regular reader of your blog since quite a while and I love the fabric you are using. I was blown away when I saw your notebook cover made of fabric by Anna Maria Horner. So gorgeous! If I had the Folk Song fabrics I would copy it stitch by stitch. An other fabric collection that I really like is Wanderer by April Rhodes. "Fire Wanderer" would fit perfectly in our livingroom.

Many fabric collections have passed through my sewing rooms but one that stands above all others was one from a couple of years ago called Pure Velvet. I've had a love affair with purple since I was five and got to choose my Christmas dress for the first time. Pure Velvet was all shades of purple. I've made two projects from what I bought and still have sufficient for a couple more. I bought lots of it!
ReplyDeleteYour creations are delightful! Thanks so much for sharing them. My favorite designers are Amy Butler, Kaffe Fassett, Tula Pink, and Anna Maria Horner. I also love batiks by anyone. My favorite colors are purple and green and blue. My favorite collections are anything by any of the above designers. I am currently coveting Anna Maria Horner's Folk Song. Thanks for the fun question, and thanks for the chance to win, and thanks for your great blog!
ReplyDeleteHi I love fabric from any designer. But I like fabric from modern designers as they make you more cheerful and happy to work with motivation. Colors are vibrant and worthy of drooling. Thanks for this opportunity.wilma- wilmaserrao@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteHi Heidi, love your blog have to say, i'll be coming back for some tutorials. I am a new comer to the world of sewing and patchwork, so i have to admit i haven't done maybe as many projects as some of your other readers. It's not easy to find time for it all when you have 3 kids (2 under 2), but when i do, i am preparing gifts for some upcoming birthday presents. i am making pincushions using some of my scraps. i haven 't bought much fabric to date , but i really like the jungle ave collection by sara lawson. i have also been recently inspired by Susan's Polston's fabrics, i just love the penguins, the taranga zoo and the all natural fabrics she has created , they are so original and lively. i can t wait to sew some more and complete some of your bag tutorials, as i do find them great, i just need to invest in a good interfacing first. Best Wishes from Ireland, Lurdes (lurdes.power@gmail.com)
ReplyDeleteGreat projects!!! I'd love something like this for myself, in between these two sizes to keep my quilting tools together and organized for on the go!! My favourite designer is Kate Spain and my favourite colours would be purple and teal.. Thanks for your generosity!
ReplyDeleteLove Me and My Sister, Kate Spain, and Tula Pink!
ReplyDeleteI love Tula Pink, Lizzy House, Leah Duncan, and also Batiks. I love fun, bright, modern prints!

Huge congrats and kudos on your book! And good luck with the move. I'm a California-transplanted Texan, so I guess I did your move in reverse! Just think of it as a great new adventure! (Like you NEED another one of those right now, eh?)
ReplyDeleteTotally forgot to talk fabrics! My current favs are Heather Ross, Lori Holt, Fig Tree and Bonnie and Camille. Just to name a few!
ReplyDeleteHmmmm - I love so many but Fresh Cuts by Heather Bailey was a favourite of mine a couple of years ago and I still love it and I love Heather Ross fabrics.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on almost 3,000 followers and your book! There are lots of designers and fabrics I'm crushing on right now like Fig Tree's Farmhouse and Aloha Girl and Bonnie and Camilles Daysail and Hello Darling, Jen Kingwell is another fave I like, they all have crisp, fresh colors that blend well with each other. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYou are smoking girl! That is a lot of followers. Congrats. I can't wait to get my hands on your book. In the meantime, make sure you take a few minutes to relax amongst all the chaos. Oh and my favorite designers are Kate Spain (of course) and Amanda Murphy.
ReplyDeleteI love anything by Cotton & Steel, Art Gallery Wanderer by April Rhodes and would especially love to play with Zen Chic's Reel Time!
ReplyDeleteTough call but my current favorite designer for both fabric and patterns is Jen Kingwell...she is brilliant! I love Philip Jacobs, Joanna Figueroa, Bonnie and Camille...and the new modern quilts using low volume mixed with brights. I have loved hand applique for years (big Elly Sienkiewicz fan) so this is a big change for me. Lots of inspiration out there with blogs like yours! Thank you!!
