How sweet it is to be back on the Zakka Along again. Last year's trip through Zakka Style by Rashida Coleman-Hale was a life changing experience for me. I think I tripled my skill set by the end of that sew along, and I wasn't even able to do every project in the book. I, along with the rest of blogland, have been eagerly awaiting this next round and the chance to work through the projects in Ayumi's incredible book Patchwork, Please!
I followed Penny's advice and turned my bell pepper coasters into hot pads. Mine are a little smaller because our aging home office copier only goes up to an enlargement setting of 141%, and I just didn't have time to go make copies somewhere else. These still work quite nicely, and I'm sorely tempted to make more. Choosing the fabrics was, as usual, my favorite part. I love working in those text prints wherever I can.
Fresh cherry tomatoes from the garden and bell pepper hot pads: a match made in heaven.

ReplyDeleteNo need to worry that your copier is only able to enlarge by 141% - you can make it larger by enlarging the first enlargement. Hope this makes sense...
For example: if the original was 5", 180% would be 9" (5 x 1.8 = 9).
If you first enlarge it to 141% you will have 7.05" (5 x 1.41 = 7.05).
Then enlarge that piece by 128% and you will have 9" (7.05 x 1.28 = 9.024).
It's easy to determine what the 2nd enlargement should be - just take the final enlargement wanted and divide by your copier's max (180 / 141 = 1.28).
My brain is always doing math :) I can't help it...
These are adorable. I missed the Zakka craze last summer--for some reason, I used to think that I ONLY WANTED TO MAKE QUILTS. Now I'm on to bags and dresses, and am ready for some smaller things. You are doing so many cute little sewing projects lately! I'm going to have to Zakka, too.

ReplyDeleteYou have such gorgeous fabrics in your stash Heidi! I think I need a lesson in buying stash fabrics! The hot pads look so bright and cheerful, I wouldn't want to put any pans on them in case they got marked! :o)
