Care Package Giveaway
I have just finished reading Diane's brutally honest post on fabric addiction -- true fabric addiction -- and it has touched me deeply. It was not so long ago that I was starting out in the online quilting world and had little to no money in our budget for any fabric purchases, let alone designer prints. I remember when my blog audience was a grand total of three, and when I couldn't seem to get anyone to consider my ideas for tutorials and projects. Back then, I had three little girls under the age of five and could hardly scrape out the time to sew at all. It wasn't easy, but I kept trying to do all I could with what I had...one slow step at a time.
Over the past few years I have been blessed by family members who joyfully sponsored my hobby, friends who sent me special gifts, and companies who generously allowed me to work with their fabric and notions. Opportunities have come my way -- some that appeared by surprise and others that I had to chase after -- that I never dreamed I would really get to experience. I don't take this lightly. Not everything has gone the way I planned, but I am so grateful for the lessons I've learned through this journey. I know that I've been blessed by others, and it's my deepest desire to be a blessing to all of you through this blog and everything connected with it.
Today, I'd like that blessing to come your way in the form of a care package. I'm putting together some special bundles this week to send out to three of my lovely readers. It won't be a huge package, but I promise, it will be a good one. Leave me a comment below telling me what you love: colors, designers, fabric collections, themes, solids vs. prints -- be specific! Also let me know in your comment where you live - your state if you're in the U.S. and your country if you're international. I'll be randomly selecting two U.S. readers and one international reader to win. The giveaway will be open through Tuesday at midnight. Be sure to include your email address in the comment if you're a no reply blogger so that I can get in touch with you. Please spread the word to any friends you may have, especially to those who you know could use a little pick-me-up right now.
I can't send each of you a care package, but please know that I'm sending all of you a hug. Have a wonderful weekend!

That was a really well written blog post/article wasn't it? I recognize some of the same behaviors in myself, and I've saved it to read again.
ReplyDeleteAnd what an exciting giveaway! I like Heather Ross (non kid oriented fabrics) Pat Bravo, Alison Glass and Dena Designs, I like bright modern prints and solids in limes and yellows and magentas and emerald green, and low volume and blenders (as I have problem balancing out my big loud fabric choices). Now I"m sad that I'm not home the next two days because all the thinking about fabric makes me want to sew...
Thank you so much, and I'll pass this along to my Mom too, she's not had such good luck getting fabric since she retired to Mexico!
Hi, I enjoy reading your blog. Thks for the chance to win. I like cloud9, vintage looking, small flower prints, Tasha Noel prints . Aquas, greens, pinks. chicnoemi@gmail.com USA
ReplyDeleteI love Anna maria horner, joel dewberry and Lizzy House. Bright, saturated colors! I am in Canada. The idea of sending your readers a care package is so thoughtful
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely idea! I read Di's blogpost too, it was really thought provoking! I'm international and I love Lizzy House, Heather Ross, Carolyn Friedlander and Denyse Schmidt. I love text fabrics and low volumes too.
ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet offer. I'm a brights and pastel lover, Lori Holt, Bonnie and Camille, 30's repo's. Any cherry fabric just makes me giggle, red and teal can't go wrong there! Basically I love it all. Can't be too picky when you live in Podunk Indiana.
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I really like the changes to your site! I am currently trying to gather low volume fabrics for a quilt. I have no text fabrics, and have been crazy for them. So, I guess that is what I'd have to say are my fav at the moment. I live in CA.
ReplyDeleteGreat blog post...I am addicted but not that much. I can draw the line! I love blues and greens, not big on solids. No favorite designer, I just like what I like no matter who designs it! I do like bright colors. Thanks for the great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteOoops, forgot to mention I live in hot and humid Florida.
DeleteI'm not entering the drawing...I have plenty...I just wanted to tell you how nice it is...what you are doing!:)
ReplyDeleteI like purples and lime green . And black and white stripes for binding, I don't have any low volume, just white. I enjoy almost all bright colors and batiks. I'm Ali's mom and I thank you for the chance to win a care package and Ali for telling me about your giveaway. The only material I'm hoarding is The Ghastlies, otherwise I don't have any designer fabric lines. I live in Mexico. thelady at hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking to that post, food for though. I love bonnie &Camille, violet craft, Leah Duncan, rashida Coleman hale, Lizzy house. Saturated colours especially green, yellow, blues and reds. I also love text prints. Bird and floral motifs. Basics and blenders but prints rather than solids. Love the neutrals too - greys especially. I'm in the UK! Thanks for the chance xx
ReplyDeleteI love subtle colours and designs and Geometric patterns like Art Gallery's new collection Gramercy. Love Leah Duncan. I like yellows, blues and aquas, Palos Verde voile by Cloud 9, Nani Iro fabrics, low volume but with great character. I also like to pep it up with jazzy bindings in chevrons and stripes. I am in the UK.
ReplyDeleteWould be so awesome to receive a fun care package in the mail! I love bright colours and prints.... Amy Butler and Anna Maria Horner being my two faves! Thanks for sharing! I live in Canada, so please include me in the international draw.
ReplyDeleteI love just about any color. l also have very few solids or low volume in my stash so I would love those! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThis post is so sweet! I'm so glad that your blog has grown and that you are able to do what you love!
ReplyDeleteI would love to get a care package! I have a 3 year old daughter, so I make a lot of things for her (bright colors, fun prints). But I honestly love all fabric (nature inspired, low volume, polka dots, stripes, solids, etc). I live in California. Thank you! xoxo
I read Diane's post about fabric addiction too and although we can joke about our own fabric addiction and make light of it all, this is a serious condition! I've found myself caught up in some of those scenarios she described! Definitely something that has me thinking!
ReplyDeleteThanks for having a Care Package Giveaway... I am from Canada. I love anything by Kate Spain, Alexander Henry, Riley Blake... As for colours, I love blues, purples, aquas, and reds. Thanks again!!
I'm glad you were able to fund your hobby and make it more than a hobby!
ReplyDeleteI like modern patterns, juicy orange and banana yellow, prints with words, two-color prints, anything that is mostly gray.
I live in the First state of Delaware.
After reading everyone else's comments, I like all of the colors mentioned! I try to buy low-volume, but I find myself gravitating to colors. I do most of my sewing for charities, so I try to go with fabrics that are not flowery so boys can get in on the goods as well. A good mix of low-volumes and bright, not-flowery fabrics would be my choice. I live in Tennessee. Thanks so much for the giveaway. It's a great way to pay it forward.
ReplyDeleteI read Diane's post yesterday and was so touched by it. I got back to sewing after taking several years off. Most of my stash from then seems to be dark, I would love bright fabrics. I like Lori Holt's fabrics, 30's and prints that read as solids. I live in south central Kansas. Thank for such a generous giveaway.
ReplyDeleteThanks for pointing me to Diane's post. I do not have a fabric addiction though I believe I was a bit of a scrapbook addict for a while and that is why I refuse to buy fabric. I only buy fabric when I know exactly what I will use it for and I only buy it at that time (not these future projects I wish I was starting...). It helps that I get a lot of free fabric from my neighbor (she's a quilter) and giftcards for the holidays to Joannes - it controls my budget well enough.
ReplyDeleteThis is so sweet of you to give away some of your blessings. I know you said to be specific but how?? I don't know anything about designers and collections and I always let the project inspire what I am looking for. I suppose currently, I am on the hunt for pinks, greens, browns, and whites? I'd like to make a paper-peiced quilt. Yes, all by hand. Crazy, I know.
I also read Diane's post, and while I don't have an addiction, am certainly guilty of buying on a whim. With my current fabric stash, and rate of sewing/making, I'm going to have to live to about 135 in order to use it all! But I definitely have plans for most of the stuff I buy! I love reading how different people incorporate their sewing into their lives, be it as a business, a hobby, or just a 'make do'. I'm currently making a hexagon quilt for my mum, and looking to border it in corals, soft teals, and greys, the first two of which are somewhat lacking in my collection :(
ReplyDeleteOh, and I'm an Aussie, but living in Scotland, so definitely international :)
ReplyDeleteYou are a sweetie. I think Diane's post resonated with a lot of people... Anyway, I love Lizzie House and Tula Pink the best. Not so big on florals or fussy fabric - geometrics are good. My favourite colours are green, aqua, pinks, purples, but I like a bit of everything except brown. I live in Australia. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAw so sweet of you! I too read that post and it was quite thoughtful and real. Good for her for opening up about it. I love text fabrics, low volumes, Japanese, 30s prints, pretty much anything Art Gallery. I live in Wisconsin zip 53129. I love your blog and have made some of your key pouches for gifts. Shopgirl7232@yahoo.com. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway - I'm in the middle of Pennsylvania - 16801!
ReplyDeleteI'm currently in the mood for Halloween and Christmas fabrics - bright happy colors.

Just read Diane's post and saw myself about three years ago. Now I control my fabric buying by only purchasing for a specific project. If there is a fabric that I really love I will put it in my cart and leave it there for several weeks until I'm sure it's on sale and on the verge of being discontinued. If I still love it and can't live without it then I might buy it. I have to admit that I still check the daily seal on several sites but seldom buy. I learned that there's always a sale somewhere and I'm not going to die if I don't buy it today.
ReplyDeleteMy favorites are currently Lexington by Minick and Simpson, Solstice by Kate Spain and can't wait to see her Horizon line. I usually like the smaller prints that but am also drawn to geometrics. I waited forever to get my hands on Hipster Dots by Riley Bake but finally found it on sale and bought a couple of yards in three different colorways. I also caved and bought a yard of Tula Pink's Saltwater Seaweed. Those octopus just made me smile. I admit to buying a She Who Sews panel for a wall hanging and fully intent to buy the Angel Band Handmaids panel. My favorite colors are aqua, grey, red and blues. Can't say I like novelty or children's prints but then again I don't have any little ones around.
I'm from Missouri just fifteen miles from the Kansas state line and fifty miles from Kansas City. Love my small town living! Thanks for sharing the link and your fabric blessings.
Laying here sick on the couch with mastitis, a little pick-me-up is exactly what I need! Even if it is just to dream. :) Plus I can see my sewing machine from where I lay, and it just taunting me, wanting to be used. :)
ReplyDeleteAs far as what I like, it's really a mixed bag. I love bright colors, but not batiks. I only recently picked up a few solids, but like other blenders - basic polka dots, Pearl Bracelets, that sort of think. I really love Heather Ross (who doesn't?!), but am not crazy about Amy Butler. I really, really wanted the echinacea print from Pretty Potent. I'm on the lookout for some really fun text prints, but haven't found any I just have to have (which considering the topic at hand, is probably a good thing).
I'm in Missouri.
I'm really moved by your post. I just started blogging this past year and I often wonder if anyone is listening/reading. It's such a sweet thing that you are doing. I live in Wisconsin which is the #1 reason we need quilts. I love modern prints and bright colored solids but sure would enjoy anything that came from you!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a thoughtful post. I completely understand the temptation from the blogging world, I look at all these beautiful stacks of fabric, sewing rooms, and Sunday stash posts and I feel so behind and I will never make beautiful quilts until I have the same stash to pull from (I've only been quilting for 3 months). Thanks for the chance to win! I'm looking for some low volume and shades of grey and navy blue prints. I also love love love novelty prints made for baby boys but just can't justify buying them! I live in Texas! Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the opportunity.
ReplyDeleteI dont have a favorite designer. Ive liked some of the stiff AM horner has done.
I like prints (non kid oriented) but need to work on getting more solids (pattern matching has its limits)
My favorite color is yellow and I also really like orange.
Currently I'm trying to find fabric for a blood/cranberry red black and cream/white quilt
I live in stormy Florida
I'm fairly new to quilting and quickly fell in love with scrappy quilts. Color is what I look for when buying fabric. I live in drought-stricken California -- send the rain!
ReplyDeleteOh how I love scraps!!!
ReplyDeletebill_cheryl_holman at yahoo dot com
My children are all grown and gone, and I've just started quilting, but I can still certainly identify with your post. I live in North Central Texas. I'm in my late 50s now and I love all the fresh modern prints the younger sewists are using, but I do like the old-timer prints of the 30's and 40's and the sweet tiny pale florals, and vintage fabrics, even sheets. Thanks so much for the generous giveaway, and for your inspiring and heartfelt blog. :) :)
ReplyDeleteThis is soooo generous!!!
ReplyDeleteI live in Canada but also have a U.S. address :)
my favourite colour is yellow, however I love all colours! I love Anna Maria Horner fabric and Alison Glass because of their very saturated bright colours and mish mashy qualities... I also love funky vibrant prints... large prints... I have noticed that I am drawn so much to fun feature prints that my basics and blenders are lacking... I'm a polka dot and stripe girl all the way!! however I should? could? move out of my box a bit... hence the reason I am attracted to the cotton and steel basics line as their blenders are more than just dots and stripes.... not that I can afford those right now :)
I love love love solids and think that all solid quilts are stunning! and I put solids in every quilt I make to punch it up and give the eye a place to rest....
My favourite thing for solid fabric is bindings... I like to put a contrasting binding on my quilts--something bright and fun and unexpected... thank you for sharing your fabric goodness!
What a great idea to pass on some of your blessings to bless others. Thank you for the opportunity. The more I see of Riley Blake the more I like! I love both solids and prints, but my solids are in dismal shape currently. I love bright colors as I love to sew for kids. And the older I get the brighter I like -- right now I am hung up on golds/oranges/reds. Thanks for your generosity.
ReplyDeleteOops, forgot I am from North Carolina (or rather I'm from the mid-west residing in NC).
DeleteWhat a kind, fun thing to do. We should all pass it on! I am in love with red and aqua these days. Thank you for a chance to win!
ReplyDeleteThis is a really great idea for all of us. Who wouldn't want a surprise bundle of fabric? I like fabrics like Bonnie and Camille, Fig Tree, and Denyse Schmidt. Sometimes I really love when I don't pick the fabrics because it is nice to have variety and get out of my comfort zone. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteYou are such a sweet person Heidi - I love your generous heart and your desire to bless others. Diane has articulated what I am sure is an issue for so many of us - whether it is still at the temptation stage or already an addiction. Please don't enter me in the giveaway as I have plenty of fabric at the moment and have already been the recipient of a wonderful care package from you xx
ReplyDeleteHeidi, it was so interesting to hear the story of your beginnings in the blogworld. Blogging is truly hard work! It doesn't come easy to me and I applaud those that can do it comfortably and with joy! I try, but right now mine is "neglected" to say the least. Oh well. I live in Iowa and love prints, mostly small prints of bright colors. Love flowers, paisleys, polka dots. Can't afford designer labels, so I just buy what's on sale at the local fabric shop. I would love to embrace a care package from you! Take care.
ReplyDeleteHello! It's chilly here for the first time in months! So I am in the sewing room working on a quilt and drinking pots of tea and wearing a sweater (but no socks because I'm stubborn that way). I live in Canada (british Columbia) and I love to look at pictures of the beautiful modern colours and florals from Kaffe Fasset, Anna Maria Horner, Kate Spain, etc etc. If I won a lottery I would buy some. :) if I won the lottery I would share them, too!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI found Diane's post made me pause for thought too. Thank you for the sweet and thoughtful giveaway, I'm fortunate that I have a very well paying full time job and that quilting and sewing is my hobby and beautiful fabric my treat. I love Anna Maria Horner, Kate Spain, and Violet Craft, or I would love some blenders in aquas and teals. I live in Canada.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! I recently moved to Florida and love Kaffe Fasset and Amy Butler! But mystery packages of fabric are the best ever! I tend to stick to the same types of fabrics over and over again and I get so excited when someone gifts me some scraps- always things I would never choose myself and it feels so liberating to play with them!
ReplyDeleteallisonpogany@gmail.com
I, too, read Diane's post and while I'm not in her situation (budgetary constraints ensure I only buy fabric when I have a project to start) I was touched by her honesty and bravery. I hope her post is able to help other quilters who find themselves in a similar situation.
ReplyDeleteYou are so sweet to give away a few special bundles to your readers! I've only been following you for a few weeks now, but would love to be in the running for a bundle. I love bright colors, especially red, blue, aqua, and even grays too. I love Bonnie & Camille, Heather Ross, Riley Blake and Japanese prints. Basically anything simple, classic and yet still modern. And I'm a scrappy kind of girl, too. Most everything I make comes from scraps!
Thank you for your kindness and generosity!
Hello from the Missouri Ozarks. I love everything red, especially prints. Thanks, Kathy
ReplyDeletekdavis1@centurytel.net
I really enjoyed her post as I can understand how easy it would be to fall into that addiction. I certainly treasure the few designer prints that I've let myself buy, but that's definitely not often. Most are actually from giveaways. I am from SD and I love texty prints and holiday fabrics. On another hand, someday my daughter will need a quilt for her big girl bed... Bright, girly colors - pinks, purples, aquas, greens, yellows and blues :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a generous giveaway! I love contemporary designs, particularly in browns, greens, ivories, and light blues.
ReplyDeletealaine74014 at gmail dot com
Oh my goodness. I read that post before coming back here and WOW- I can see bits of her in myself! Especially several years ago. It's a funny thing, self-medicating.
ReplyDeleteI'm just starting to know designers, so I'm not in love with anyone in particular. And I like all colours (though cool colours are my favourites)! It just depends on the project. I think my biggest thing is the designs/prints. I like geometrical or nature inspired, not cartoon-y. I've been wanting to make a colour wheel quilt, but can just never seem to find the right fabrics (I pick them up a bit at a time, when on sale).
Oops- forgot to say I'm in Illinois, in the US!
DeleteThis is so nice, thanks so much! Your right, so many of us are on extremely tight or no budget for something that is the very air I breathe! I love Lilly Ashbury, Verna Mosquera, Lecien Flower Sugar, Anna Maria Horner, Joel Dewberry, Tula Pink, Heather Baily, and the list goes on! I love bright colors and flower prints and solids are just as beautiful! I just started quilting in the last year and it has given me a new lease on life in more ways than one and yes fabric is literally addicting and being a bargain Hunter it can be tough. I have to keep telling myself I don't need it yet and wait! Very hard sometimes! I'm in Ohio by the way, again thanks so much!
ReplyDeletetdkcarpenoctem@hotmail.com. :)
I am in Pennsylvania -- and I recognized myself in how you described starting out -- lots of little ones, no money to spend on fabric, and little time to sew. I'm not blogging yet! :) I would love to win a care package from you. I love pink, raspberry and burgandy. I love old fashioned prints, and delicate florals, and tone-on-tone swirly, viney fabrics. I like Printemps and Dear Stella. I like scrappy, traditional quilts and blocks. Thank you so much! sarah@forrussia.org
ReplyDeleteI think we each create to meet a need. Each of us is at a different place in our journey of life. Some are beginning sewists and some are experienced sewists and beginning quilters. Some create to fulfill a need to have a time for personal time. Others create to make things for charity or loved ones or needed objects. Sometimes I create because I just need to do something to know I can accomplish some a goal that has nothing to do with a necessary goal of running the house. I am retired to health and sometimes it is a stretch for me just to make it to the sewing studio. I love to sew to see the creation process. My mother taught me to sew clothes when I was young. I no longer sew clothes. Making quilting projects makes me still feel close to my mom and my grandmothers who sewed. I still like to do hand piecing. I am currently hand piecing a Grandmother's Flower Garden, not English Paper Piecing. My favorite color is blue and I adore small prints and solids. I am trying to branch out and embrace other colors. You are great to brighten some readers' days.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a cool approach to paying it forward! I love fabrics that were designed as coordintes, but I am looking to expand my comfort zone to include a more scrappy look. I would like any combination of fabrics. Thanks for the virtual hug!
ReplyDeleteI am from Iowa. :)
DeleteI live in NC. I am a Blue addict. Lately I have been stuck on 30's and Batiks as well. Sometimes I get addicted to a given pattern like Patch Pals, crazy but I love making those darn quilts.
ReplyDeleteI am a big believer in sharing "wealth" with others so I love this idea. I have been quilting for years and I still have a hard time building my stash with low volume prints. I seem to second guess myself when I go to buy. About the only color I don't like to work with is yellow. So generous for you to do this. I live in beautiful Oregon.
ReplyDeleteWow, i love a lot of fabrics, i've been adding to my "stash" for a few years, and although my tastes have changed over the years, i find i can easily use all of the fabrics one way or another.
ReplyDeletei have a collection of solid colours as well as prints; it's like a store on its own....without the drive...hahah
i keep learning, and enjoying.
thanks for considering a Canadian for your give away
xo
love your blog
eva
Hello,
ReplyDeleteWhat I love most about the blogging community is the community. The chance to talk and share and support each other. I am starting out myself and trying to turn this hobby into something bigger and it is encouraging to read success stories that keep the dream going.
I have been financially constrained so I have not been able to buy lots of fabrics, but my addiction is obvious when you visit my pintrest page. I have over 1000 projects in my wish list.
What can I say, fabric has special powers and makes some people happy. I am pleased to be one of them! Thanks for the chance to win, I am in the U.K.
I love reading your blog and your modern and airy designs.
Eva
From Australia - and man am I glad she mentioned it! I find myself often about to click buy on FQ bundles and then realizing I only love certain prints, and I should just buy those.
ReplyDeleteI love bright colours, especially AMH. Anything would be most appreciated.
Thank you for your generous giveaway and for including international followers as well. I live in Greece and I love Anna Maria Horner and Amy Butler but I also like text prints because they're not easy to find in this part of the world.

I´m from Finland. Currently I´m loving purple coloured fabrics, all of them :D No matter what the material is but if the colour is purple I love it!
ReplyDeleteGreetings from a cloudy Netherlands! This summer has been so dismal, that it looks like autumn already. So, I have started working on a lapquilt in autumnal colours to go with my decor in the livingroom. I have some FQ from one collection, but love to add some other fabrics to get more variation. Looking for mustard, berry and magenta pink. Mixing it up with kona snow!
ReplyDeleteI also read Diane's post and was touched by it. I am lucky I do not feel like her, but I do get sucked into pretty fabrics on sale. The shipping costs alwways hold me back though.... Great huh! I try only to buy what I really really love and not what everybody else likes.
Have a great weekend,
Esther
Great post, really thought provoking. I had read Diane's post & it really struck a cord with me. I had already been on a fabric fast but I now want to re-assess the way I think about fabric purchases in the long term. I live in Australia & I love Denyse Schmidt, Violet Craft & Carolyn Friedlander. Thanks for the lovely giveaway.
ReplyDeleteAwesome post.I look for colors when I'm buying fabrics and love mix prints with solids.
ReplyDeleteBig thanks from Spain
I love this kind of pay it forward and promise to also do this on my blog! I'm a purple fan and love modern prints and solids. I read Diane's post as well… so honest and raw. I admire her.

Thank you for the hug it has come at a time when I can really use it. Thank you too for your kindness in sharing your good fortune in the wonderful world of quilting. I am in Australia and would like to think that no matter where we are in the world we need more sharing and caring.
ReplyDeleteI like anything knitting related, sheep, bright colors, teal, retro design, red, Mary engelbrecht. I live in Missouri.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a lovely idea. I have just started a blog and currently have zero followers, so I am just starting out like you did. Who knows where it might end up? I love Aneela Hoey fabrics, Heather Ross and quirky contemporary prints (like the tigers in the new Cotton & Steel range). Currently can't wait to get my hands on the new Vikings range by Alexander Henry but I live in the UK and it can take ages for the new collections to find their way over here!
ReplyDeleteI am in Indiana! I love low volume, modern prints and anything that has polka dots in it. Designers are Carol Friedman, Kate Spain and Tula Pik. I love looking at the photos of all your fabric. This is my long time goal to get some shelves like yours so I am able to see all of my fabrics at a glance. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeletecjpike (at) indiana (dot) edu
I actually avoid those websites. I hate the feeling of 'ooo, your going to miss out!'. The pressure to buy, without having time to consider if you actually want/need that item. I think of it as missing out on spending money. I 'miss out' on the fabric sales all the time. Where many people think of how little they are spending in relation to retail, I think of the fact that I am still spending money and how little the discount really is. I see people all excited over 20% off, but 20% of $10/yd is $2. Doesn't look that great to me. I haven't quite understood, either, why fabric stores think 20% is huge for a black friday sale, when other stores have items that are 50-70% off.
ReplyDeleteI love blue and purple, my stash is lacking black. I love a mix of prints and solids and I could use some blenders. I prefer traditional prints to modern and do not really have a preference on designer. (I mix and match all the time)
What a lovely thing to do, Heidi! Giving back is a lovely way to spread the joy of quilting. I could use a pick me up, right now. I have recently become an empty nester both my kids are in college far from home, so it's been an adjustment. Getting some new fabric might just lift me out of my funk! I have so many favorites, but Denyse Schmidt, anything green and low-volume prints always catch my eye! Again, thank you. I live in the US, in PA.
ReplyDeleteGreetings from California. A lovely story about your growth and success as a blogger and sharer of all things crafty! I love all fabrics, especially fabric in blues and purples. I am a fan of novelty prints too!
ReplyDeleteHi Heidi, I'm following from Maine and do have a problem...especially since I discovered how easy on-line shopping is. For years, I would only buy in quilt shops or at Marden's - a discount store in Maine that carries everything imaginable, including fabric. They have all the top brands, just all mixed together. You never know what you may find but it is never more than $4.99 yard. You see the problem...and I love all kinds of fabric, CIvil war reproduction, vintage, solids, 1930's. And unfortunately, every new line that comes out, especially by Moda, I think I need. Thanks for your generous giveaways!
ReplyDeleteLovely post.. I live in Ontario Canada and I'm currently working on a postage stamp quilt. This year I've been working very hard at using up the fabric I have. Thank you for your kindness to your readers. laura84watt(at)gmail.com
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. Care packages are the best, and fun mail is one of the best things I've found about the online quilting community. I live in Texas. I am just starting out quilting and I don't know who my favorite designers are, and I'm still learning what types of prints I like working with best. I do know that I love color, color, color.
ReplyDeleteI have been really impressed with the very honest posts I have been reading lately. Diane's was truly on a new level, and I agree it was brutally honest. I just started quilting and am on a super strict budget, but if I wasn't I could see myself falling into a similar pattern of 'retail therapy'. I love geometrics, polka dots, simple florals, solids, and bright colors. I have no purple, yellow, or red in my stash. Thanks for sharing the fabric love, I live in Michigan.
ReplyDeleteWhat a generous thing you are doing! I think it's too easy to get caught up in "I need this fabric" or "I could use this to make that!" I try to limit my buying and only get something when I need it for a specific project. I'm doing okay with that. I still have a really hard time not getting stuff when it's on sale for a really good price though. I don't really have a favorite designer, although I do really love Tula Pink. And I use a wide variety of colors and prints but would love some chambray, texty prints, black and white patterns, and geometric patterns. Thanks again for the opportunity!!!! =)
ReplyDeleteI love the color purple. I have trouble coordinating fabrics. I prefer bundles, it takes the guess work out. I love text fabric, and geometric patterned fabric. I live in Illinois. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI live in the US (Texas to be exact) and I am really not picky about colors, I pretty much like everything. Purple is my favorite color and I would say the only thing I don't care for is dull prints. As far as designers I love Alison Glass, Basic Grey, Bonnie & Camile and Denyse Schmidt. I really love grunge, dots, tone on tone and pearl bracelets. Looking at your photo above any of those would be great for me. I don't have any of the Cotton & Steel, but have some on my wish list.
ReplyDeleteDiane's post was very honest and pointed out some things I didn't even notice I do when I order fabrics. I did manage to cut back on my fabric order this past yars but sometimes you just can't resist. Your idea of a care package is really amazing and reflects the type of community quilt-blogs often sustain. I live in Israel and would love to receive a care package. I love Anna Maria Horner's fabrics and any fabric with wild animals (Sarah Watts, Ed Emberley, Charley Harper...) and prefer blue/green colors.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
I am in the great cold state of Ohio...we have great quilting weather for more than 1/2 of the year :) I love prints & solids...I'm not picky at all...I don't care much for the muted florals tho
ReplyDeleteI have mostly prints but am trying to add some diversity to my solids. (I've been eying up all the goregous Alison Glass fabrics lately.) You have the cutest stash of low volume and fussy cut prints that you used in your many awesome graph paper QAL projects! I live in Pennsylvania.
ReplyDeletePS It's a great idea to think of it as a care package, so sweet!
This is really fun! Lets see...I have a hard time pinning down what I like exactly, I am drawn towards cool colors but when things like Indian Summer, and Arizona come along I'm surprised and I love them! I think it boils down to if a fabric is a specific pattern or artsy looking. I love fabrics that don't look like they have a pattern! And I always love solids! I'm living in Michigan!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun!!
ReplyDeleteI like Joel Dewberry and Alison Glass and I like all colours except brown!!
I'm in England!!
Such a sweet sentiment....thanks for the chance! Spetzie at att dot net
ReplyDeletevery moving, you write very well. I love all bright colors, maybe because i am 72 years old
ReplyDeleteI am an oregon sewer and all about warm fall colors right now. Hmelinajones@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteIndeed, what a blog post Diane wrote! My mom sent it to me last night. I love bright colors and odd retro kitcheny prints. Love all kinds of dots and checks; I like all colors, but what I'm kind of missing is navy and red....I hope you know how much we all care for you too Heidi!
ReplyDeleteHow very thoughtful! Thank you for the chance. :) I am typically drawn to bright colored fabric. I love Kate Spain and Sis Boom/Jennifer Paganelli. I also love super fun prints like Ann Kelle and anything for kids since I sew a lot for kids. And solids....well, I never seem to have enough so you can't go wrong there! :) Hope you have a lovely weekend!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your fabric. I read Dianne's post and see some of myself in that too. I like Heather Ross, Tula Pink, Bonnie & Camille, Pezzy prints but I was too late to the party on that one to buy any. I have started collecting solids as I have almost all prints in my stash and very few solids. I live in Canada. I am happy for you that you have been fortunate to have people support you in your art.
ReplyDeleteHow kind. I like fabric by Three Sisters pale pinks, blues and greens and also like French General, reds and blues and cream, but my stash is so small I appreciate anything! I live in France. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteWow! You have more than three followers now :)
ReplyDeleteI do have plenty and do not need anymore, but I just wanted to say how nice it is for you to share. I am a new blogger and I only have about three people following me. Maybe I will grow up to have lots of followers one day too!
Thank You for sharing! Rainbow colors are my favorites. I try to get the different shades and tones of a color. I like blenders, more into prints then solids. Just started getting some solids. Not into big crazy prints or kid designs. NO Writing on Fabrics. Do like Fall/Halloween (ex. Witches Brew Ha Ha (the red on Orange Night Sky-love the the different shades)) and Winter/Christmas prints. I like batiks that have different shades in the background and in the print (ex. Rum Raisin Batiks Rum Raisin Italian Marble or Hyacinth Pine Seeds, Jelly Bean by Edyta's Essentials, Reef Tonga). I normally can find something by Timeless Treasures that I like (ex. Apple of my Eye, Blue Winter, Dynasty, Palazzo Peacock and Blue Metallic, Pumpkin Spice). Stonehenge is good. True fire engine red, Chocolate brown, Draffodil Yellow and Oranges are needed. Things that catch my eye from your picture: red with tiny hearts, orange with white lines(1/2 way down), orange pale white criss-cross lines, green and white chevron, med blue with light blue leaves/feathers, raindrops (right below it), white backround with blue leaves and flowers. That should give you an idea of my taste. This was so much fun, making out a wish list.
ReplyDeleteNew York, USA 24Tangent@gmail.com
I am lucky to live in Charleston, SC. I like pink, blue, navy and teal. Just saw a quilt using Kona kale. Beautiful too. I am also trying to find some text prints, but the brights pull me in. I would appreciate anything! Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a nice thing to do. I really like warm and muted colors, small floral and vintage/vintage inspired prints, I like basically everything by Fig Tree Quilts. I love oranges and yellows and greens. I live in California. Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteYou are very sweet! What a great idea! I read the two blog posts about spending addiction (made me feel guilty and sad and hopeful all at the same time).
ReplyDeleteBut of course, we all love the fabric. I am on the hunt for black and white text prints and I love brights. I live in Maryland, where we have just had the best summer weather ever!
I'm in California. I love Kaffe Fassett, Riley Blake, Kate Spain, Fig Tree, Moda, I like blues, purples, greens, reds, modern, contemporary
ReplyDeleteThere was a glitch not letting me type anymore. So I'll add Tula Pink and just a fun feel to the fabric, cotton, minke, etc.
DeleteI like small prints any colour. I'm English and live in Spain. Thank you for the chance.
ReplyDeleteI love little delicate flowers, and soft vintage colours.
ReplyDeletebeautiful blog, and you are so sweet to share . bless yoU !
angela
How lovely Heidi! I remember when we were both getting started. It's been fun. I love bright modern prints and text prints make me swoon! Thank you for the chance
ReplyDeleteI think Diane was very brave to write that post and the best thing is I am sure it will help many quilters...It has given me a lot to think about, not just when it comes to buying fabrics. The post about your Grandmother being a hoarder has also meant a lot to me. Sometimes you don't realise things until somebody points them out to you...
ReplyDeleteThank you for your sweet idea. My stash is very small and I like all the fabrics you use, so anything would be fine for me. I prefer prints to solids at the moment and am completely missing turquoise in my fabrics.
Heidi, what a generous giveaway! I appreciate the hug too! I read Diane's post early yesterday, and I think I carried it around the rest of the day, and still was thinking about it today. It is refreshingly honest and may well help others in the same situation to feel less powerless. I love bright colors, dots, geometrics, not too picky about name designers, but I do adore Kaffe Fassett. Thanks so much for your blog!
ReplyDeleteI love solids and bright colors. Thanks for such a wonderful giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI really like your article. I have started getting a nice collection of small pieces of fabrics I use for my Yahoo group, World of Charity Stitching. We make gifts for seniors and children. I like bright colors, small patterns, and dots.
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Peggy
peggy_vedongibbs@att.net
I love prints, but I'd love to start working with solids--ala amish quilts! Thanks for this fun chance!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea! I live in Colorado and would love some Low Volume fabrics (I am a little late to the bandwagon). My favorite fabrics are ones that read a single color like pearl bracelets and pin dots. I really love cool colors like grey, green and blue though a hint of pink is starting to grow on me. I have never really cared for all solid quilts, but I enjoy working some pieces into many of my quilts. I rarely buy specific designer prints thought I do like Sarah Jane, Me and My Sisters and Heather Ross. I tend to shy away from big bright prints like AMH, Kaffe Fasset and Joel Dewberry. I have four smaller children and don't have as much time as I would like to sew right now, but when I make time it is like therapy to me. Thanks for being generous and enjoy sewing!
ReplyDeleteWow! What generosity!! I'd love some fabric that is kid-prints because I make tote bags for kids to use. Anything little kids would love I'd appreciate very much.... sending hugs in gratitude!!! ((((heidi))) from ny
ReplyDeleteI am from northern Minnesota. I love low volume - especially text prints. Bright saturated colors- especially blues and greens but not exclusively. Heather Ross, Lizzie House, Carolyn Friedlander and Allison Glass are some of my favorites. Such wonderful giveaway
ReplyDeleteHello from eastern No. Carolina! I love text prints and black/white fabrics. I am a huge fan of Denyse Schmidts, Sweetwater, and Bonnie and Camille. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI'm not totally picky about fabric or colors, but I prefer brights. I'm also really, really low on white and black right now. I am not hung up on any particular designers, but wouldn't mind getting V&Company prints, I love her colors. Also like Bonnie and Camille. cdahlgren at live dot com
ReplyDeleteI, too, was touched by Diane's post. I love your idea of sharing your blessings and passing along care packages to your readers - what a sweet way to give back! My current favorites are warm colors, especially orange, yellow and pink, and I'm a fan of solids and small scale prints. Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteHi, I love to read stories about how other quilters do their thing.. I discovered quilting almost 2 years ago, and have not stopped sewing since. I am a bit of any impulse buyer, and have made a few scrappy quilts, quilts for my young grandchildren, and now for great nephews - they keep a coming. I currently love the soft greys, teals, orange and have just discovered 30's patterns. I live in Queensland, Australia.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the blog post and link. I love to get special gifts from my friends and family as well and they help perpetuate my addiction. :) I love all fabric!!! Currently, I live in a house full of boys, so pink is not on my purchase list. I live in Indonesia.
Heidi, thanks for the HUG:) Living in the south east in Virginia, on the Atlantic. I'm inspired by and I love Nautilus shells, starfish and sand dollars which make me love colors like seaglass, turquoise, ocean water. Bright colors are also me and warm ones...Orange, Red, Gold and Yellow.
ReplyDeleteYou are a blessing to the quilting sewing world. Thank you so much for your journey and your generosity in sharing the bundles.
I read the fabric addiction post as well. It took an amazing amount of guts for her to write all that out. Diane has my upmost respect for what she did. You are very thoughtful for wanting to mail out care packages, your own pay it forward. :) I am inspired by Bonnie and Camille's fabric lines, those simple feminine designs are so classic and beautiful. There hasn't been a line I haven't loved. I also love Densye Schmidt. It's like someone took the 50s, 60s, and 70s and saturated them in color. The updated vintage look she makes with her lines is amazing. Thank you for the opportunity.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite fabrics change according to mood and time--what I loved 5 years ago, I don't like so much now! So currently, I love the Charley Harper line. I don't know what it is exactly about it--the bold colours, maybe, yet even the muted shades are bold in their own way. The simple prints that are so eye-catching. My favourites are the cardinals and the lady bugs. Nature, in general, is big inspiration for me.

Oops, forgot to say: I'm in Canada. :o)
DeleteI seem to be in a dot and chevron love right now. But I also love floral, not the small little ones but larger flowers, with stems and all. I love the retro looks of the 40's and 50's Vintage I will have to say. I live in beautiful California where it never rains anymore..... Thank you for letting us all enter and gab a bit!
ReplyDeleteI love practically everything - geometrics and florals and lots of basics and blenders. My favorite designers include AMH and Heather Bailey. I love so many colors but especially red, pink, blue, and yellow. I am in Colorado.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite colours are green, purple, and orange, although I could use some low volume fabric, too. In terms of everything else, I'm not too picky. My address is in Virginia. Thanks for the generous giveaway!
ReplyDeleteDiane's story has touched me deeply too, I know I am a fabric addict, so this weekend I bowed out of a swap and also kept myself from joining 2 other swaps, those are my downfalls, because then I have to buy fabric and fill up the package. I love all fabrics, the whole rainbow, I am in need of blenders or background/low volume. I live in Greece.
ReplyDeleteWow, a great post, thanks for sharing! Your fabric cupboard looks great! I love Free Spirit fabrics, and Jeni Baker's collections. In colors I mostly collect oranges, lime greens, aquas, and blues. But I like all the colors :) I'm in Westchester County, NY :) thanks so much for the opportunity!
ReplyDeleteI live in Buffalo, New York. I love the 1930's repros but lately have been totally into the Cotton and Steel line!
ReplyDeleteI live in North Carolina. I love bright colors and tone on tone prints. Sweetwater, Bonnie and Camille and Amy Butler are some of my favorite designers. Thanks for such a great giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI live in South Dakota and I just love fabric:)
ReplyDeleteI live in Maryland. I love polka dots, the cool side of the color wheel, and those colors paired with gray of any shade, especially if that gray is linen. The hexi on the edge of your pillow with the Tula rain drops is my second-favorite fabric ever. My very favorite is Supervnova in purple from Lizzy House's Constellations. Regarding sewing, I've only been sewing about 2.5 years, and I am completely self-taught, which mainly means blog and you-tube video taught. I am grateful for how you share your knowledge, especially with so many tutorials.
ReplyDeleteI love blues and purples, often combined with greens. I have very few solids in my collection and am using this as an excuse to purchase some. Having recently moved to Tasmania (bottom of Australia) where the local quilt shop closed soon after I arrived, I am starting to look online for fabric. Hugs to you and thanks for your wonderful giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI've really been into Japanese fabrics lately.. the double gauze especially have been so soft and airy. I love the simple prints that they come in.. or the solid colors. USA here - NY.
ReplyDeleteI love blues, greens, calming colors! I love care packages, it reminds me of happy college days.
ReplyDeleteWe live in Virginia in the USA.
What a fun idea. I find myself drawn to deep (not necessarily dark) colors- not pastels for me. Allison Glass, Anna Maria Horner, and Leah Duncan have caught my eye recently. I'm also a sucker for Bonnie and Camille's lines. I'm in South Carolina.
ReplyDeleteI love anything Japanese (Echino, Kokka etc), Cotton + Steel, anything Birch Organics, and Art Gallery. I love prints especially! I love all colors, though I'm mostly drawn to orange, green, blue, gray. I'm based in Virginia, though originally from Australia :)
ReplyDeleteI love modern fabrics- Leah Duncan, Allison Glass, Fanfare, Rashida Coleman Hale, Charley Harper and many others. I lean towards vivid prints in all colors of the spectrum and tone on tone prints. Pink isn't my favorite. Living in the PNW in Washington! Thanks so much.
ReplyDeleteGreetings from WA state! I love all kinds of quilting fabric: solids, vintage prints, florals. I have the most fun with scraps that friends have given me. What a great idea; a surprise care package!
ReplyDeleteI am also from Washington. Love small floral prints in lots on colors.
ReplyDeleteI love in Nebraska and love color!!!! Any type. Bold or pastel you name it!!! I also love text prints and maps, so there is so much out there that catches my eye!!! Thanks for the chance to win such a fun giveaway!!!
ReplyDeleteYou are so kind to share! I love bright colors and modern prints. Kate Spain and Me And My Sister are a couple of my favorite designers.
ReplyDeleteUtah!
DeleteI really like Lori Holt, Bonnie and Camille, Kim Diehl, French General. etc/ It is so hard when you read quilter's quilting with beautiful fabric and there is little to no money to spend. Thank you for acknowledging that. I love your generous spirit. Three wonderful readers will truly be blessed. I live in New Hampshire. I like aqua and reds right now with greys. Actually any colors are great.
ReplyDeleteYour post is brimming over with kindness. Thanks for the chance. I love the colors in Bonnie and Camille's collections but I also love novelty prints, the sillier the better.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance. Oh and I love in South Carolina.
I love Patty Young's collections. I love prints--usually modern/contemporary ones. I like to sew together ones that on first look don't appear to go together but then some how they do work! Since I have a daughter who loves bright colors I tend to gravitate towards those. I live in the US.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog Heidi - and I love green, navy and white and grey and teal!!! I live in England now :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for linking to that blog post Heidi, it really was food for thought, and I am sure Diane isn't the only one in the same boat. I make quilts, bunting, cushions etc. and teach classes, which funds my fabric and other supplies, so thankfully I don't have that guilty feeling anymore, it makes it more manageable. Anyway, thank you so much for the giveaway, it's really generous of you. I think I was one of your early blog followers?! It's been fab watching you expand and grow as a quilter. As for my fabric choices, I love anything orange and purple, but I would be grateful to win anything. You have a great eye for fabric and colour. I live in the UK (Jersey) :-)
ReplyDeleteIt was a very thought provoking post. I've been mostly sewing from stash for the last three years, mainly due to a lack of local fabric stores as I live in Papua New Guinea.
ReplyDeleteI've been finding it hard to resist all of the lovely modern prints that are coming out at the moment, but I keep reminding myself that I have fabric that allows me to keep creating, not that I wouldn't love to win some from you :)
I should point out that due to irregularities in the postal service all important things go to my postal address in Australia and we pick them up on visits home. I don't expect anyone to pay postage to PNG (should I be so lucky)
ReplyDeleteHello from Newfoundland, Canada! Thanks for the chance to win. I love blues, greens, hexies and pretty much everything you make. I really enjoy reading your blog and I'm so happy for all the successes you've had. My own blog is still pretty small (though I did just pass the 100 follower mark on Bloglovin!), so I can only imagine some of those opportunities. Maybe someday...
ReplyDeleteHaha! I just realized I'm waaaay late to this giveaway party! Oh well!
