THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED BUT THE QAL ISN'T!
YOU CAN STILL JOIN US!!
I am so thrilled to announce a new quilt along that will be happening here at Fabric Mutt over the next few months! When I first saw Aneela Hoey's adorable version of Camille Roskelley's Vintage Holiday quilt pattern (take a look here), I absolutely fell in love. I knew that I wanted to make one myself, and I knew that I wanted lots of company while making it. Camille was gracious enough to give me her blessing when I asked if I could host a quilt along, and Kimberly at The Fat Quarter Shop was kind enough to agree to sponsor it. Though I first mistakenly entitled this the Vintage Christmas Quilt Along -- yes, that's what happens to your brain when you're up all night with small children -- we're officially calling it the Vintage Holiday Quilt Along.

To kick things off, we'll be hosting a giveaway every week during the month of July (the details are on the schedule below). You can use this month to get yourself a copy of the pattern and choose your fabric. Be sure to grab a button from the sidebar on the left and join the Flickr group here. I can't wait to see pictures of the fabric you'll be using -- there are so many great new Christmas lines coming out this summer!
We'll start sewing on August 6th, doing two blocks a week before we put all the finishing touches on our quilts. Once we reach the finish line, I'll have a linky party here at Fabric Mutt where everyone can show off their completed quilts. At the end of the week, we'll have a random drawing, and two of you will win one of these...
An entire fat quarter bundle of Vintage Modern by Bonnie & Camille...my, how I wish I could enter this drawing with all of you!
Here's our schedule for the next few months:
July 9: Heidi Staples at Fabric Mutt/Vintage Holiday pattern giveaway
July 16: Aneela Hoey at comfortstitching/$25 Fat Quarter Shop giveaway
July 23: Svetlana Sotak at S.O.T.A.K. Handmade/$25 Fat Quarter Shop giveaway
July 30: Maureen Cracknell at Maureen Cracknell Handmade/$25 Fat Quarter Shop giveaway
August 6: Blocks 1 & 2
August 13: Blocks 3 & 4
August 20: Blocks 5 & 6
August 27: Blocks 7 & 8
September 3: Blocks 9 & 10
September 10: Blocks 11 & 12
September 17: Finish quilt top
September 24: Finish quilt back
October 1: Quilting
October 8: Binding
October 15-19: Link-up Party/Giveaway prize drawings on the 19th
Once we start sewing, I'll be showing you my version of that week's assignment on Monday. Be sure to add your photos to the Flickr group throughout the week so that we can see everyone's take on each part of the quilt. There's going to be a lot of creativity going on, I know!
I'm so grateful to Camille and Kimberly for making this QAL possible, as well as to Aneela, Svetlana, and Maureen for helping me spread the word by hosting giveaways on their incredible blogs. Be sure to stop by in the next few weeks -- they're each going to be giving away a $25 gift certificate to the Fat Quarter Shop!

Linking up with Let's Get Acquainted Monday.
I can't believe I'm the first comment. Ah well, last year was the first year I actually did "holiday sewing" and I started in late November! Needless to say, I didn't get a whole lot done. This year I am starting, well now.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to say I've already started my Christmas sewing but truthfully it's usually November! A sew along sounds a great idea!
ReplyDeleteWonderful Christmas sew along! I will start in August or Spetember!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win.
Ohh this pattern is great :) I usually start my Christmas sewing around Christmas...ya know, all the way in December. With two new babies in the family this year I may try to get my act together sooner!
ReplyDeleteI promised myself that I would start my holiday gift making starting July 1st. The list I of stuff to make keeps getting longer but I have not started it. I am prepping for a new niece/nephew but after they arrive in a few weeks I hope to start the holiday sewing.
ReplyDeleteUh I usually start my Christmas sewing after Thanksgiving. Sad but true. Very cool you are having this quilt-along...not sure yet if I'll be able to join or not, but at the very least I'll follow. FUN!
ReplyDeleteI just started my Christmas sewing last week! This is really the first time I have done any sewing related to Christmas so I'm pretty excited! I have a lot of ideas so hopefully I won't run out of steam! Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteUsually about October. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to start my Christmas sewing later this month or sometime in August. Thanks for the sweet giveaway!
ReplyDeleteGolly, this is wonderful. I totally loved that pattern on Aneela's blog. Although I did have some other Christmas sewing in mind, I might have to join in on this one. Last year I started crocheting stockings in August or September, but I haven't made a Christmas quilt before!
ReplyDeleteVery cute pattern! I only started sewing last August so I think I made Christmas things starting in about November... not sure how much I'll get done this year either since I have a baby due in Jan!! So August would be a good time to start!
ReplyDeleteI actually do Christmas sewing scattered through the year.
ReplyDeleteThis will only be my second year for doing Christmas sewing. Last year I think I started in November. I have collected some Christmas prints from after Christmas that I would love to use in this QAL.
ReplyDeleteI've never done Christmas sewing before, I'm in my first year quilting, so I'm really interested to see what everyone else has to say :)
ReplyDeleteSame as Chrissie - I've never done any before but I guess my answer can now be July because of your QAL. Everything looks and sounds terrific! Looking forward to joining in the fun!
ReplyDeleteWow, that is a beautiful quilt! I love how creative you could get with the different ornament colors and patterns! :) I start my Christmas sewing in late Octoberish, but I've only been sewing for two years.
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt - very tempting to join in!
ReplyDeleteI'm terrible at Christmas sewing and always leave it later than I intend with a mad rush to finish in time. I should plan a bit better this year and start maybe now hehe!
Thanks for a fun giveaway!
Have fun Heidi! I may join in, who knows!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun QAL. Great pattern! I always tell myself to be more organised for Christmas - and then start in November. Doh! Hopefully this year I can be a little more on top of things. Time will tell! :)
ReplyDeleteLove the holiday quilt ! I usually mean to start my Christmas sewing in the summer but generally start in October. Thanks for the giveaway !
ReplyDeleteI usually don't start till November. I need to get my butt in gear this year! This is such a great QAL!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea, Heidi! I usually don't start my sewing until a few weeks before Christmas. Starting earlier would sure reduce my stress!
ReplyDeleteThis past year I did awful with my Christmas sewing. The last quilt was giving in late January :(
ReplyDeleteThis year I have started early and have one quilt finished and plans and fabric for a few others. But I know me and will think of many more gifts between now and then so regardless of when I start, I will likely not finish until just in time :)
Thanks for this awesome quilt along idea

I always have big plans for Christmas sewing but don't get anything started until the week before Christmas. Needless to say, I don't get many of my projects done. This QAL will help be get going early this year!!! Thanks for the opportunity!
ReplyDeleteI, too, always have lots of plans but don't get started until late November and end up having to scratch about 2/3 of the list... But I am ready for this QAL - think I have the fabric picked out already. Just need the pattern...
ReplyDeleteI probably start thinking about it in September but actually start late October about the same time that I bake the cake!
ReplyDeleteI usually leave it to late October/November which means I miss the last international surface mail posting dates so I pay a premium air mail cost to het things to Canada. This year I'm trying to start NOW!!
ReplyDeleteSince I worked at, taught at and owned a fabric store in the past I got used to doing some holiday sewing in June for Christmas in July. Now I do it whenever the mood strikes. I have a goal of making Christmas quilts for family members. I have a about a half dozen pieced now to get them quilted and make some more of course.
ReplyDeleteI always wish to start my Christmas sewing around this time - Julyish but it ends up being more October/Novemberish :(
ReplyDeleteWell, this will really be my first year to do ANY holiday sewing, and plan to start, now. Hoping to figure out some gifts to make, and want to make this quilt! This will be a good challenge for me.

OMG, I'm sooooo lazy. I start just 1-2 week before.
ReplyDeleteI actually started two weeks ago, lol! However, its a tree skirt I've been working on for about 1.5 years so I'm excited it will be done shortly.

ReplyDeleteI know I should star sooner... but I never realize Xmas is coming till November. I'm always late..
ReplyDeleteI'd love to start this month! I've got some things cut out so I just need to get sewing!
ReplyDeletechristmas sewing...yikes...usually here and there with no schedule...when the fabric/pattern strikes me....:%
ReplyDeleteAfter Halloween to be honest. I usually am sewing costumes, then it's over, and the urge strikes, and I sew like a demon for 6-8 weeks! Love the patio placemats by the way!
ReplyDeletecarrie dot hare@gmail.com
I'd like to say I start early, but the truth is I start November; some years I'm on the ball and start in October.
ReplyDeleteI start my Christmas sewing late fall and am usually still sewing right before Christmas. This would be great to get some done early. Not sure I have fabric to play along with though.
ReplyDeleteI tried to start by summer, because once school starts in Fall time flies by quickly.
ReplyDeleteI usually start in the Spring! Seems early to most but I don't get much sewing done with the kids home in the summer and fall just goes by so quickly! Thank you for the chance to win this pattern!! I can't wait to start it!!
ReplyDeleteUsually right after Christmas.....cause I pick up things at my LQS after-Christmas sale - but then I lose steam about February and have several Christmas UFOs:-)
ReplyDeleteI try to start early say August/September but am still usually finishing up the few days before Christmas! Lots of plans to start early this year!
ReplyDeleteI always have good intentions of starting early, but usually do not start until after Thankagiving.
ReplyDeleteI try to kick it off with Christmas in July...but it's usually closer to Dec. 1 when I start rushing to finish things!
ReplyDeleteI start in June because I try to make my girls homemade gifts every year and one other lucky family member! Or at least I hope they think they are lucky!
ReplyDeleteI try to start about now, don't always succeed though!
ReplyDeleteI'll be excited to follow along and see everyone's great projects!!
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge procrastinator - I don't start any holiday sewing until October at the earliest - bad me! LOL. I'd love to win this pattern and join the sew along!! How fun!
ReplyDeletecaribousmom (at) gmail (dot) com

ReplyDeleteI usually start my holiday sewing in November, which is not nearly soon enough!
I usually start sewing for Christmas in... November. Ha! I guess I'd better start earlier this year!
Obrigada.

ReplyDeleteI just started this month! I hope I can get it all done! LOL!
ReplyDeleteThis will be my first year doing some Christmas sewing/quilting. So I am not sure when to start. :)
ReplyDeleteI am just realizing as each day passes we are getting closer to next Christmas and further away from last Christmas.LOL I just find it hard to think of Christmas with this heat. But I guess I had soon better.Usually come September and the colder weather moves in is when I start sewing for Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI started sewing regularly a few months ago. I have been thinking about starting my Christmas sewing this month. I need to make my daughter a quilt first, it is a toddler size so it shouldn't take long. It will be my first quilt. ;-)
ReplyDeleteshuttermom77 atgmail dot com
I have never done a quilt a long before and I think this sounds like a lot of fun. I start my Christmas projects in November, usually. I always promise myself I'll start earlier... but you know how it is!!! Thanks for a chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI think about holiday sewing more than I have done holiday sewing. This year my youngest is in school full time and I have big plans. I want to start with this quilt.
ReplyDeleteI start planning holiday sewing from the day after Christmas. I actually start a few things and end up rushing at the beginning of November. I really want it to be different next year!
ReplyDeleteI wish I was organized enough to say I've already started but thats just not true. I will probably start in October.
ReplyDeleteWell this is the first year I've been sewing anything other than garments. I did start a Christmas quilt for my MIL in February but I got discouraged from that particular project and stopped. I am going to start making some smaller Christmas presents in a few weeks once I've wrapped up a class and a QAL I'm involved in. Thank you for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI always start my projects way too late and often have to go to plan B. You would think I would learn and start earlier. I think I will be better this year....thanks for the giveaway. Have a wonderful day!!
ReplyDeleteI always start my projects too late. Normally November is when I make up my mind what to make. I really need to get going sooner. Thanks for a chance to win this awesome quilt pattern! :)

ReplyDeleteI started in March of this year. I made a Christmas wall hanging.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I start my Christmas sewing in January...depending on the project. Also, I'm still in the Christmas spirit, so it's easy to start Christmas sewing for the upcoming holiday.

Such a pretty quilt! Last year I started in late November, but my excuse is I had just started sewing. Since I want to do quilts for my family this year, I am going to try to start in the next few weeks. The hard part will be not giving any finishes away before Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a big holiday sewer but have made and given away one Christmas quilt already this year. I have Camille's Christmas stockings on my to do list too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun quilt to make! My Christmas sewing usually starts in late Fall.

ReplyDelete3 quilt tops. Which are waiting to be machine quilted. Thanks for the giveaway!
Start date? Why it's a constant process - interspersed with everyday sewing along the way :) Christmas is my favorite Imelda of year so I enjoy stitching for it all year!
ReplyDeleteI would like to say I start in July. But truthfully I usually start in October or November then have to rush like crazy.
ReplyDeleteI normally start in November unless I get an amazing idea like this quilt along to kick me in the butt.
ReplyDeleteI normally start my Christmas sewing at the beginning of autumn, as soon as the evenings cool off enough for me not to swelter in front of the sewing machine and iron! Only a month and a half to go! /melt
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea, Heidi. This is such a lovely quilt and starting in August to work on a Christmas quilt is so genius. I'm off to buy my pattern and decide on fabric.
ReplyDeleteJust barely found this but LOVE it!!!! I will definatly be quilting along. I generally start my holiday sewing way to late in the season, like octoberish but am trying very hard to start early this year and already have first project in the works :)!!!!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could say that I started by Christmas sewing in the summer but it is usually November! Eek!
ReplyDeleteI would love to join in this fun! Found your blog and this QAL through the Simplify blog from Camille. I haven't done a lot of Christmas sewing, but this is a year to get started. Looks like a perfect project for me! Thanks! Jennifer jlgwyn@msn.com
ReplyDeleteWhen the hot summer sun keeps me inside, its time to start the Christmas sewing, watching nature outside, from the inside while keeping the machine whirring is a wonderful way to spend the day..
ReplyDeleteI start my Christmas sewing about 3 weeks before Christmas. Honestly... I am that bad. I wanted to try and make Christmas place mats this year, but so far nothing. I will probably start those in November. :)
ReplyDeletei just this week got some christmas fabric to start making christmas things
ReplyDeleteI usually start in October, but that's always too late! I am a new quilter, two down and many more to go! I have been bitten! Let's quilt!
ReplyDeleteWell, I have never sewn for Christmas before, but this year I am almost finished with a Christmas quilt. So I guess, for this one year at least, I start my Christmas sewing in July!
ReplyDeleteThis year I would like to make some christmas stockings - guess I should start that now so I have plenty of time.
ReplyDeleteUsually not until November but by then, I don't usually get too much done!
ReplyDeleteIn the middle of moving and going through boxes and boxes in the garage. Oh my, didn't know I had so much fabric stashed away. Now pulling patterns together to do a craft show in the fall. Keeping fingers crossed I can keep up this pace.

I have loved this quilt since I first saw it...so glad to begin sewing now in July...earliest ever! I love ornaments!
ReplyDeleteI almost always start my Christmas sewing in January, then I tend to slow down after the warmer weather begins, but restart in panic mode come September.
ReplyDeleteCheers

I guess I get my sewing machine in gear when I see posts about Christmas sewing, but I think about it all year long because I like to give appropriate gifts. It would break my heart if I discovered that something I'd spent days or weeks working on was tossed in a corner. Had that happen years ago and although I accepted it because I love the recipient, I've never forgotten the lesson that 'a gift should be one especially chosen for the recipient.'
ReplyDeleteWould really like to get a headstart on Christmas this year! I'm at least going to try....
ReplyDeleteThis year I started to embroider for a Christmas project in late january and I just finished that portion today! Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteLwghosts at yahoo dot com
I usually start my Christmas projects early....like NOW, in July. I have a tendency to start & stop a project; so this gives me plenty of
ReplyDeletetime to get done. Thanks for the chance to win!!
wigglypup2(at)yahoo(dot)com
I am going to do this KAL. I'm sooooo excited!!
ReplyDeleteI'm one of those people that lets the time get away from me, so my Christmas sewing is usually quick and small. It's always a surprise to me when it gets to be a month before the holiday and I'm nowhere near done. This needs to change!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI just learned sewing and quilting last June. I found out it was very hard doing Christmas sewing on December. Do the sewing in July will be a good idea.
ReplyDeleteI start my Christmas sewing/quilting in January, but really get busy during the summer.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the QAL. Very tempting.

I really just started quilting again last fall by making my great niece a doll blanket for Christmas. This year I plan on starting early - in fact any day now as I just got the yardage I needed in the mail! Also waiting for Cherry Christmas to come out.
ReplyDeleteI will be the first to admit, I never start anything until the last minute. Last Christmas I decided the week before Christmas that I wanted to make everyone a lap quilt. That is 7 quilts in 7 days. I did finish all of them and only sent one of them out to be quilted the rest I did. They all measured 6 feet long by 5 feet wide except for my grandson's which was slightly bigger than baby size. So I will probably do the same thing this year. Decide the week before that I need to make something for everyone and then sew like a mad woman for 7 days.
ReplyDeleteI get the itch right after school starts (When I start the Christmas countdown) and the other countdown for the Summer (The end of school) Keeps me focused, something to look forward to!
ReplyDeleteI start about a month before, sometimes I do something during the year, no plan really! love the fabric and the beautiful quilts.
ReplyDeleteI think about October! Although last year I was pregnant so I didn't get anything done!
ReplyDeleteJust ordered my fabric :) Yay! I will miss week 1 and be a little late to week 2 but I promise to catch up!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhen our daughter was young I started sewing gifts like doll clothes and doll quilts as soon as school started in the fall. Now I think about it for months and rush to start in November and spend late nights trying to finish in time.
ReplyDeleteI'm a terrible procrastinator, so I usually start getting inspiration in November & then actually sewing in December. Ugh. I'm going to join the QAL this year for motivation. Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteI'm new to quilting and I've already started a few small items for Christmas. Thanks for the givaway.
ReplyDeleteActually I start in January as I am still in the Christmas spirit and it is still cold and snowey. Thanks for the give away.
ReplyDeleteI usually start around October!
ReplyDeleteNo matter when I start, it's never early enough! This sounds like such a fun project. I'm decorating in all these fun vintage colors this year, so the quilt a long will be perfect! Thanks Vicki at avablondie at aol dot com
ReplyDeleteThese are so cute, thanks for sharing them with me us. I usually like getting my holiday quilt patterns a year in advance and start everything. Giving quilts is something my grandma did all the time to all of us grandkids and I want to keep the tradition going.
ReplyDelete
